The Fletcher School at Tufts University
Class of 2011
Although born in Kansas, I spent most of my life growing up in New England between Rhode Island and central Massachusetts. My interest in the world outside our borders began in high school where I started my studies of Chinese and became involved in model United Nations. Having a deep interest in economics and business in China, I pursued degrees in finance and Chinese language and literature at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Upon graduation, I entered The Boeing Company’s two-year finance rotational program with particular focus on Boeing’s defense side, supporting the Chinook and V-22 Osprey programs in a wide range of responsibilities. Once my two years were up, I accepted a one-year project management position in the United Kingdom to support the Mk3 program for the Ministry of Defense.

It was during my time in England that I gave serious consideration to what career I wanted. I enjoyed working in the defense industry, but recognized that the markets available were limited as a result of the American government’s concern over proliferation of defense technology. As such I applied to and was accepted into Fletcher’s Master of Arts in Law & Diplomacy (MALD) and look forward to establishing a career that will allow me to better understand the complexities of American security and eventually shape policy objectives.
