Mark McCarty

Mark McCarty graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics, a Bachelor of Arts in Russian and a minor in Mathematics. His honors thesis focused on Kazakh government policy for the management of oil and gas windfalls. As an undergraduate Mark spent his summers in intensive foreign language programs for Russian and Persian (Farsi). After several years of domestic study, Mark also completed a year of intensive Russian at Moscow Humanities University in Moscow, Russia. The following summer, he participated in a program of advanced Persian language studies at Tajik National University in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

During his undergraduate years, Mark served in community outreach efforts to refugees in Phoenix, Arizona and co-founded a scholarship fund for rural Arizona students. After graduation, Mark worked in private sector jobs in the financial and insurance industries. Mark enjoys nature and outdoor activities, especially hiking and snowboarding. He is pursuing a Master of International Affairs, concentrating in American Diplomacy and Foreign Policy.
