Matt Southerland

Matt Southerland is a policy analyst with the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.  Prior to joining the staff of the Commission, he worked as a research associate for Defense Group Inc. and as a research assistant for the RAND Corporation.

Matt has a Master of Public Policy degree with a specialization in International Security and Economic Policy from the University of Maryland. During his graduate studies, he worked as a graduate assistant for Ambassador Susan Schwab and interned at the U.S. Department of the Treasury as a Rosenthal Fellow.

Matt studied Mandarin Chinese in Beijing at the University of International Business and Economics, and in Taiwan at National Cheng-chi University and National Taiwan University. He has a B.A. in Anthropology from Georgetown University.
